I think the word "prednisone" is from the Latin word "pred"
which means to "swing wildly & feast" and also the Greek word
"nisone" which means in today's English, "Sybill". I am currently
petitioning the Medical Edition of "Webster's" dictionary to
change the proper parental spelling to "PrednisoneUGH", but they
haven't replied as yet. I'll let you know. I pray, though, that it does it's job as intended. Count to 10. Remember, it's the drug... not the child. I've spoken to adults on it, (in that concentration/dosage), and even when they KNEW it was the prednisone/prelone causing the reaction, they still couldn't help themselves... It was as frustrating to them, as I'm sure it is to someone that can't understand what's happening. Sometimes, I am joking... Sometimes, I am deadly serious.

Hey My sister and I are twins, age 16, and we both were diagnosed with Lupus. When she first started prednisone, she was as mean as can beshe didn't want me to come near her and every little thing I tried to do to make her feel better she would bite my head off for doing it!!! When I started, I was totally opposite. I slept a lot more, but I was an angel. Our personalities clash and we argued 24-7! I hate prednisone because the more salt I ate the fatter my face got and now people love pinching my cheeks. I'm used to it now and the both of us are almost completely off of prednisone so the horror story will soon come to an end, and we'll be the lovable twins again!!!
We are on our LAST PREDNISONE WEEK, this is certainly one drug we will not miss. The only thing that has occurred to me is that I won't be able to blame it on prednisone anymore... Jeanne
Our 2½ year old daughter was diagnosed on Nov. 8th 2000 with A.L.L. We spent three weeks in the hospital for treatments, spinal tap and a bone marrow biopsy. Through all of this, we had lots of visitors that brought her toys every time they came to see her. The doctor gave her name to Make-A-Wish so I asked her "... if you could have anything you wanted, what would it be?" She never answered me. I called Make-A-Wish to let them know that we were going to wait on her wish because she was too young to decide. But as I was talking to Sharon, the lady from Make-A-Wish, Hannah kept trying to talk to me. Sharon told me to ask her again, so I did. Hannah's thoughtful reply this time? "A mayonnaise sandwich." She was on steroids at the time. (Needless to say we are waiting on her wish.)
He has to stay on high doses and will be in a size 7 before I know it (he's in a size 5 now!). Becky
While staying at Ronald Mcdonald house, three kids were all on prednisone at the same time! All had the same cravings at the same time: they all wanted chicken noodle soup for breakfast. My daughter (not on prednisone) had to have the same things at the same time, so she gained a bunch of weight. Which in the long run was a good thing because she wasn't into the whole eating thing. My daughter, Abby (4 yrs old), was diagnosed with ALL 8 weeks ago today (8/2/02). She was on a daily dose of prednisone for 30 days. During that time, she would be up two or three times during the middle of the night wanting "noodles & sauce" (pasta w/ tomato sauce), or macaroni and cheese. We would go the kitchen, she would eat a big bowl of pasta and then she would go back to sleep until the hunger woke her again. She also experienced the expected moodswings and unreasonable behavior (unreasonable even by 4 yr old standards!) She returned to her normal, sweet self within 2 days of stopping the prednisone. Thankfully, we have a reprieve for at least the next 30 days. If you need more information ...
