Now here's a great idea and one that many of us can incorporate. Mary Beth sent along the wish list for the needs of her son's hospital. You'll want to check for specific needs at your own medical facility, but what a great way to clear out a closet!I thought I would send this to you for what its worth. I have always loved your website and it seems with every growth, it becomes more helpful for families/friends of children with cancer. My son was treated for neuroblastoma at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Any parent living in a hospital for months at a time with their child understands the constant need the hospital has for extra materials for these kids. I have always made collections for toys, art supplies, books, clothes, etc and am constantly dropping things off when we visit for appointments or celebrate Christmas/ Josh's bone marrow transplant at the hospital. At our last visit, I actually asked our Child Life Department for a "wish list" as I am hoping to start efforts to meet needs and dreams of this department and get things to help enrich the lives of our pediatric cancer patients while in the hospital. I thought I would pass along the list to you, as I know you have a section for what others can do to help support the families of cancer patients. Maybe it is time to make it easier to find, and equipt anyone interested in helping these children by providing them with this list of things that can be donated to the hospital. This is a their preliminary list, with additions that I already can think of that could help. Maybe some of your readers could supply other ideas that could really make this a great list. In addition to what I donate for children, I also bring some things for parents. We have a parental lounge that is open 24 hrs with a library, computer, tv/vcr combo & refridgerator. So I also bring in tapes for parents, books, magazines, etc. We parents need that mental escape from time to time too.
