I wrote this rhyming letter
About a special little lady
You may know her better
By the name we call her - Katie
She's much like other little girls you meet
You'd think she's very cute and sweet
But there is one major difference
And a source of very great pain
Our precious daughter Katie
has a tumor on her brain
"There is a mass" the doctor said as we began to cry
We could not help but wonder, is Katie going to die?
The surgeon was very talented, competent and gifted
Shortly after surgery our spirits were surely lifted
It was on a hopeful basis that we would often pray
And try to get our Katie through each long and difficult day
Then came the meningitis, it brought us to our knees
All we could offer was "Oh God, - please"
Please don't let our daughter die this horrible death
It was all we could bear to watch her struggle for her breath
Surgeries, needles, drugs and such,
It all became a blur
Why one child should have to bear so much
Of this I am not sure
As each day would pass, we'd all look for a sign
Anything to prove that Katie would be fine
Then one day we saw it, although it was just a trace
A beautiful smile had finally returned to lighten Katie's face
We asked, "Katie, is it true you smiled -
Or could that simply be a rumor?"
"Why shouldn't I smile?" proclaimed Katie
"I'm gonna beat this nasty tumor!"
No one knows what the future holds,
And for any of us that is true
But God has truly shown us -
He means it when He says "I love you "
Don't feel sorry for Katie
Of the future she has no fears
She simply says - quite bravely
"Just come back and see me…
In ten or twenty years!"
