This poem was written for my son and his grandfather but the words work for kids fighting cancer anywhere:
It's true that we both wobble
A little when we walk
At times we both get short of breath
A little when we talk
When we look in the mirror
To see what we can see
Sometimes it's still such a shock
You have more hair than me
Steriods make me grouchy
And sometimes you are too
And we may feel like crying
Over things that we can't do
I've seen some people staring
With pity in their eyes
If they only knew what mattered
We wouldn't make them cry
So I've no hair upon my head
And yours is turning gray
That's not what makes us special
What does, can't be taken away
So we can't run and play like kids
Ride bikes or play in snow
Our strength is in our hearts and minds
And our love of life still shows
Illness doesn't change our love
Or take our faith away
For God knows what he's doing
We grow stronger everyday
So let the others shed their tears
For they don't understand
That you and I will march through life
Knowing God holds us in His Hands
